TECH NEWS – The “GabeCube” now supports AMD’s latest upscaling technology. This is hardly surprising, considering that the hardware itself is built around AMD components.
AMD’s latest upscaling technology has finally arrived on the Steam Machine. Valve published several updates on Steam concerning its latest gaming console, including the announcement that FSR, or FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1, is now available in supported games. In its brief Steam Machine update, the company explained that FSR 4.1 can now be accessed through the Proton Experimental channel in titles that support FSR.
FSR 4.1 remains the best version of AMD’s upscaling technology currently available and offers substantial visual improvements over previous iterations. Valve introduced FSR 4.1 through Proton Experimental, a preview version, as it commonly does before releasing features through stable Proton builds. Steam Machine owners running SteamOS can therefore try FSR 4.1 in supported games without waiting for a future stable release.
Valve has also published the Steam Machine’s CAD files, which contain the precise three-dimensional measurements of the system’s exterior. This allows modders and enthusiasts to design compatible stands, mounts, covers, and cases using exact dimensions. Another update concerns the reservation queue. According to Valve, purchase invitations will continue to be sent every day based on each customer’s position in the waiting list. The company says everyone who currently has a valid reservation will receive an opportunity to purchase the Steam Machine before the end of the year.
Valve also reminded customers that they must complete their order within 72 hours of receiving a purchase invitation. If the transaction is not finalized during that window, the opportunity will pass to the next customer in line. The only problem is that the AI boom has driven up the price of virtually all hardware, and the Steam Machine has not escaped the trend. Valve is not subsidizing the device, meaning players must pay its full cost.
