Virtua Fighter : prise en charge du Rollback Netcode et du Cross-Play lors du reboot ?

Some of the better known fighting game technologies could be used in SEGA’s old but now neglected IP.

On Twitter, SEGA/Atlus insider Midori posted several tweets about the new Virtua Fighter. He says that the new Virtua Fighter will focus on online and eSports. It will have online and offline modes, including customization modes. There are new characters with modern art style and a character artist. The concept of the game has changed a lot from 2021 to now. Streaming and spectator implementation are an important part of this title and the Super Game concept. It is a reboot of the franchise, developed by the current Virtua Fighter staff, and will be released for all major platforms with cross-play and rollback [netcode] functionality (the latter meaning that if there is a discrepancy between two players, it will (re)align them, hence the name rollback). The game is being developed as a modern competitor to Street Fighter and Tekken, with eSports concepts and mechanics similar to current Street Fighter and other fighting games. The concept has evolved a lot as a result.

There’s a brand new main story and side stories with brand new characters. The evolution of ranked matches like modern brawlers hasn’t been left out either, as this is a title that focuses on scaling with players and their play styles during online play. Daishi Odashima is involved in the project, with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio assisting with development. The main concept is called Battle Universe. It is an open space where you can watch the battles. Development began in 2021, but the first ideas for the title date back almost a decade. It’s a reboot that aims to make Virtua Fighter a globally popular series, but it will also be Virtua Fighter 6, as it’s the sequel to Virtua Fighter 5. The development team has carefully improved and introduced new fighting techniques inspired by other games.

The problem is that it’s not official yet. We don’t know when the new Virtua Fighter will be released because SEGA hasn’t revealed anything about it yet.
