Nintendo Switch 2: Will Interest Remain Unchanged Even After The Price Hike?

According to one analyst, consumers will adapt to the higher price tag of the console released last June.

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo has quietly increased its Switch 2 production quota to 20 million units for the current fiscal year, a 20% increase from the 16.5 million units cited in the latest financial report released earlier this month. Nintendo typically issues conservative estimates that are easily surpassed by actual results. Dr. Serkan Toto, a renowned industry analyst, believes that the Switch 2’s higher price won’t deter consumers from purchasing the console.

“For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later. The just-finished fiscal year is a good example. Consumers will eventually get used to the higher cost, and Nintendo can soften the blow with creative strategies, such as offering bundles. My prediction is 18 million Switch 2 units this fiscal year, and I would not be surprised if the actual number is higher” – Toto wrote.

Nintendo’s decision to order the production of approximately 20 million units is doubly noteworthy as it came shortly after the aforementioned price hike in major markets, a $50 increase in the United States and a €30 increase in Europe, suggesting that the company believes demand can withstand a sudden price increase. Although the public forecast points to 16.5 million units for the fiscal year, the supplier target suggests that Nintendo is preparing for another successful year. Bundle offers and games will likely play a significant role in this success. Nintendo believes that the upcoming Switch 2 game lineup will continue to drive demand despite the higher price and challenging economic conditions.

Here’s what we know about the lineup that has been publicly announced: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on June 3. Then, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales on June 18; Star Fox on June 25; and Splatoon Raiders on July 23. The following titles are scheduled for release this year: Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, The Duskbloods, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and 007 First Light. In 2027, Pokémon Winds/Waves will be released.

Of course, Nintendo is undoubtedly preparing additional titles as well. According to rumors, one of these could be a big-budget remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
