Sony Interactive Entertainment and Ember Lab have announced Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits, set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. This time, Kena is older and already renowned as a Spirit Guide, traveling to the mysterious island of Kosmora in search of answers about the affliction she has carried since childhood.
Ember Lab says the sequel started from a simple question: what would Kena look like as a more experienced guide, using her skills to help the living as well as spirits who have not yet passed on. Kosmora is built as an island of distinct cultures and regions, with a tragic past that left secrets buried beneath the surface, turning exploration into a steady process of uncovering what went wrong and why it still matters now.
The story quickly pivots around a major rupture. On Kosmora, Kena faces a powerful spirit that fractures her staff, and the studio frames that staff as more than a weapon or tool: it is a Spirit Guide’s identity, the means to commune with spirits, and in Kena’s case, something that was also keeping her alive. With that lifeline broken, Kena is forced to embrace a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding that uses Alchemy to manipulate elemental power as a core mechanic.
Elemental spirit companions sit at the center of that new layer. They travel with you, grow over time, and unlock new powers as your bond deepens, with each companion tied to a specific element and connected to other spirits throughout the world. Combat is also being pushed toward strategy and depth through new skills, elemental infusions, and a more deliberate reliance on companion abilities, all aimed at carrying players through challenging encounters and full-scale boss fights.
Kosmora’s Temples, Element-Focused Puzzles, and a Story the Studio Is Keeping Deliberately Spoiler-Free
Additional official details describe Kosmora as a land of ancient secrets and corrupted spirits, where Kena must combine courage and skill to awaken old temples linked to the island’s hidden history. The elemental companions are positioned as dual-purpose tools, used to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and traverse the world, while Kena and her allies work to cleanse a powerful corruption threatening the entire island.
Ember Lab also stresses restraint around story specifics, noting that it is intentionally avoiding anything that could drift into spoiler territory. What it does promise is an emotional, heartfelt adventure for returning players and newcomers alike, backed by a larger world made possible through its partnership with PlayStation Studios, with an emphasis on tightly designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure.
