Deus Ex : trop niche pour que les éditeurs ramènent la franchise ? [VIDEO]

It’s incredible if the rumors about Deus Ex, which hasn’t seen a new game in almost a decade, are true… and we still find it hard to believe!

Apparently, Eidos Montréal hasn’t completely given up on the Deus Ex IP and has reportedly offered a new installment in the series to several publishers, but unfortunately to no avail. We hear about this from Tom Henderson in the latest episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. It all goes back to the restructuring of the Embracer Group. That’s when they canceled the last part of the IP that was still in development.

But Eidos Montréal decided to move on to another Deus Ex project not related to the Embracer group. The concept was then presented to several publishers, but none of them were interested. None of them were interested, even though the first part was amazingly good in 2000! In fact, one of the publishers (Electronic Arts, if we had to guess…), who unfortunately was not named, said that the IP was too niche, i.e. a layer game, to do anything with it.

With Eidos Montréal knocking on virtually every door with pitches, the concept will probably never develop into a full game, as no one seems willing to finance a sequel to Deus Ex. Publishers are more reluctant than ever to take risks, as the state of the games industry is still not particularly positive. As a result, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which was released in 2016, will be the last part of the franchise for a long time.

So Eidos Montreal would have tried, but they didn’t have the chance (and since they couldn’t go back to Square Enix, their previous owner), so the will was there to bring Deus Ex back, but there was no demand. Who knows how the franchise would have worked after Square Enix was free… another such replacement, Tomb Raider, is being made with Amazon (Embracer also got it back in the day).

But it’s not official!
