Les fabricants de PC attendent beaucoup de Microsoft cette année ; seront-ils déçus ?

TECH NEWS – It’s not so certain that Redmond will release Windows 12 in 2024. (What happened to the days when Microsoft said that Windows 10 would be its last operating system?)

There are a lot of questions you could ask Microsoft. Will there be a new Windows OS this year? If so, will it be called Windows 12? Will it be full of artificial intelligence? (That’s why you’ll need 16 GB of memory, so 8 gigs of RAM wouldn’t be enough!) And we could go on, but we won’t, we’ll just point out that this particular Windows 12 might not be what we think it is, and that it might just be a huge Windows 11 update from Microsoft…

Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, talked during the company’s financial report about the company’s plans to release the Snapdragon X Elite processor at a similar time as Microsoft releases the new version of Windows (he didn’t name it!). The terminology is the same as Intel’s: last October they said Windows refresh. There are two ways to interpret this. Either it will be new software based on Windows 11 but with a new name, or the current operating system will get a huge service pack or update that will breathe new life into it… this could be Windows 11 24H2.

But Windows 11 will be released in 2021, and if Windows 12 is indeed coming, Microsoft would have to hype the new operating system for months. If it doesn’t, the company will surely test the reception of the new features with a major update, and if the feedback is positive, they could find their way into Windows 12. Let’s not forget that Windows 11’s market share isn’t that big either. It has become a trend that every other operating system has done slightly worse (Windows Millennium, Vista, 8… and now maybe 11?).

Soon we’ll see if PC companies have something to be optimistic about, or if it’s just a major update…
