Hellraiser: Revival: Pushing the Boundaries of Violence!

Saber Interactive has admitted it will stretch the limits of what’s acceptable when it comes to depictions of violence.

Hellraiser: Revival, announced back in July, promises to deliver the chilling, grotesque atmosphere that defines the franchise. Clive Barker is returning to direct the game, and it looks like Saber Interactive won’t be holding back when release day arrives. According to the studio, the game will elevate violence and body horror to an entirely new level. They claim it will push the M (Mature) rating as far as possible, making it closely resemble the films.

Speaking to IGN, Saber’s development director Tim Willits explained that the studio intends to test the limits of the M rating guidelines. As a result, the game will include extreme content. Willits emphasized that they will go as far as the ratings boards allow, but the studio will still act responsibly and stay within restrictions. He added that Clive Barker’s return is a huge advantage since he knows the world and characters better than anyone and can continue to expand them.

Doug Bradley, the original actor behind Pinhead, is also back. Altogether, fans can expect a major horror release at a time when the genre is thriving, with franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill dominating. The only drawback is that no release date has been set yet, though Saber Interactive has promised to share more details soon. It’s possible the game could appear again at The Game Awards.

One thing is certain: the Hellraiser franchise hasn’t had much success in gaming. Despite nine films, an NES/SNES game was canceled, and Hellraiser: Virtual Hell never came to fruition. Perhaps Hellraiser: Revival will finally see the light of day?
