Un titre Yakuza parmi la programmation japonaise de la PS5? Retard PS4 pour Yakuza: comme un dragon?

No, we’re not talking about Yakuza: Like A Dragon (where Microsoft paid SEGA to make the next-gen version exclusive for a period on the Xbox Series), but another title.

Yakuza and PlayStation are hard to be split, as the series, known as Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japan (and the studio behind it also uses this name), debuted on the PS2 as an exclusive. Since then, the devs opened towards Microsoft, and we’re not talking about just the Xbox platforms but the PC, where a few Yakuza Kiwami titles have been available for a while. (They are mostly the current-gen engine using games, the ones built with the Dragon Engine.)

SEGA’s Japanese website for Yakuza hints at a Yakuza Kiwami 3 announcement, even though we haven’t heard of such a plan so far. It might be just a mistake, if we can believe this Japanese tweet, though. Then again, it’s SEGA, and we may never know what they could be doing.

On Gematsu, we noticed how SEGA’s worded the upcoming release of Yakuza: Like A Dragon „Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows 10, and PlayStation 5. Please stay tuned for more release information on all platforms in the coming weeks.” That doesn’t sound so promising: even the PlayStation 4 version might be pushed back in favour of the Xbox Series version, even though the Xbox One release would be the same SKU. Did Phil Spencer pay them off even more? We wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft made a financial move here.

At this rate, we can’t do anything else but wait for news, and let’s hope that SEGA will finally confirm what the situation is, possibly without causing more ruckus for the PlayStation-owners.
