Since it was announced in September 2021 that a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was in the works, we’ve seen nothing of it, and there have been conflicting reports as to whether it’s still in the works or has been quietly and secretly canceled. Embracer-owned studios Aspyr and Saber Interactive (the latter has since gone independent) confirmed in May 2022 that they were working on the game, and later claimed that Saber, who were developing the then-in-progress Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, had taken over development of the remake (and have since announced a third installment; we reported on this a few days ago).

Following rumors that development on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake had been halted, Saber CEO Matthew Karch told the press last April that the game was alive and well. However, another year has passed and we’re still in the dark due to the lack of official information. Karch has once again confirmed that the Star Wars game is still in the works, telling Game File that the remake is still in development, but claiming that he can’t say any more than that, and then a PR person explained that Saber wants Star Wars owner Disney to take the lead when it comes to talking about games based on the company’s characters.

Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to…
